Adding value with Diversity this Pride Month 🌈

Happy Pride Month 🌈! This is always a meaningful time for me as a queer person, and a great time to highlight that Widenor Consulting is a proud Plexus LGBTQ and Allied Chamber of Commerce member as well as a NGLCC-certified LGBT Business Enterprise.

Why does it matter? Personally, I’ve found being part of the LGBTQ+ community an enormous gift. Here are a few ways it shows up for me at work:

- Diversity matters. While not everyone is using this term as much as they used to, the data clearly show that teams of diverse backgrounds make better decisions because they draw from a wider array of lived experiences.
- Challenge assumptions. When you’re used to people making incorrect assumptions about you and your life, it becomes a very natural exercise to take stock of where an assumption by the team might be holding you back from your next breakthrough.
- Coalition building. We are very in-tune with the importance of allyship - knowing who is in our corner, and how to use those partnerships to move forward even in the face of those who aren’t.

Do you need to be an LGBTQ+ person to understand these things? Of course not. But when the themes are part of your everyday life, applying them in business is second-nature.
